In confirmation of my telegram of

this date, I have the honour to forward the enclosed copy

of a letter from Messrs. Denison, Ram and Gibbs, dated the

30th. ultimo and to inform you that Mr. J. A. Hirst, Over-

-seer on the Kowloon Water Works Contract, was conveyed to

Hospital at an early hour on the 31st. ultimo and was

certified on that day by the Superintendent of the

Government Civil Hospital to be suffering from alcoholism

and unable to do his duty. Mr. Hirst died suddenly on the

same day.
